US Food and Drug Administration
The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) is a US law that gives the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authority to set and enforce food safety standards for cultivation, processing, production, packaging, storage and distribution of domestic and imported food products. Since its ratification in 2011, a set of rules has been developed to define the minimum requirements that food businesses must implement to produce, process and/or distribute food for sale and consumption in the United States.
HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) is the primary platform of international manufacturing legislation for everyone involved in the food industry.
HACCP is an internationally recognized risk management tool that allows optimal and responsible management of food safety issues. The objective of HACCP is to validate the implementation of the food safety system, and in particular makes it possible to:
- Improve and maintain the level of product safety and critical control points
- Become aware of the risks likely to affect the production chain
- Provide proof of compliance
The British Retail Consortium
The BRC certification makes it possible to meet the requirements of British distributors in terms of the quality and safety of food products.
The BRC aims to define a common basis of food safety requirements for manufacturers of private label products on the UK market and thus to standardize audits. BRC certification is obtained after an audit by an EN 45011 accredited certification body.
From religious institutions to third-party agencies to the US government, there are hundreds of groups that inspect, test and certify thousands of food producers around the world using a wide range of standards. Certified products will then carry an easily identifiable label on their packaging so consumers can make informed purchases based on their preferences.
